Ivanić-Grad, the Naftalan spa and the edge of the Posavina

Three kinds of traffic meet here and none of them expects the others: through traffic leaving the motorway, visitors arriving at the spa, and agricultural machinery using the same lanes to reach the fields.

What this area is

Ivanić-Grad is a town in Zagreb County, about 25 km south-east of the capital along the A3. The 2021 census recorded 12,982 residents in the town, and the 2011 census 14,548 across the whole administrative unit. It covers 173.5 km², of which the urban zone is 45.3 km². The main railway line towards Slavonski Brod and Vinkovci runs through it.

The town sits on the boundary between the Posavina lowland and the wine-growing hills to the north, and it is known for the Naftalan spa, which brings a steady flow of visitors who do not know the local roads.

Boundary: the capital and its transit routes, the eastern stretch of the motorway with the flood plain beyond it, and the hill country to the north each have their own entries. This one covers the town, its motorway exit and the roads immediately around it.

What tends to happen here

The exit and the first kilometre after it. Drivers leave a road built for speed and are among junctions and crossings almost immediately. Damage clusters at that transition, and noting which direction you came from explains the sequence better than a description of the impact does.

Visitor traffic to the spa. Arrivals are unfamiliar with the layout, often older drivers, and manoeuvring damage on car parks and in narrow streets is the most common single category here. Photograph the position of both vehicles before either is moved, because on a car park nothing else fixes it.

Agricultural machinery and level crossings. Tractors and trailers use the same roads to reach the fields, and the railway line crosses several of them. Mud on a bend disappears with the next rain and a crossing looks ordinary in a photograph taken close up, so record the wider scene while you are still there.

Where the vehicle is inspected

Recovery usually ends in the town itself or along the road back towards the capital. Ask at the scene where the vehicle is being taken and write the address down, because tracing it afterwards through a recovery operator takes days rather than hours.

We come to the vehicle. Appointments here are normally possible within one to two days, since the town lies directly on the motorway and is easy to reach from either direction.

For damage on a farm road or at a crossing, the wider frame matters more than the close-up. A photograph showing the road, its surface and what stood beside it places the spot; a photograph of the damage alone does not.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can a vehicle be inspected near Ivanić-Grad?
Usually within one to two days. The town lies directly on the motorway, so access is straightforward from either direction. Tell us where the vehicle was recovered to and we will arrange the appointment.
Someone reversed into my car on the spa car park and drove off.
Photograph your vehicle where it stands, the surrounding bays and anything that might have recorded the manoeuvre, before you move it. Ask at reception whether cameras cover the area, and ask the same day. Footage of that kind is usually kept for a short time only.
There was mud from farm machinery on the bend. Does that count?
It can, but only if it was recorded at the time, because the next rain removes it entirely. Photograph the road surface before the vehicle is moved and note the time of day. A statement made a week later has nothing behind it.

Send photos of the damage

A preliminary assessment the same day, free of charge, in English, German or Polish. Nothing to fill in — photographs are enough.
